Men, women, and children are suffering from poverty and political oppression and discrimination based on race and political origin. They live in conditions of extreme human hardship, lacking any of their basic rights as human beings. They urgently need immediate international assistance. "Sudanese civilians find themselves in Chad, in camps that lack water and secure shelter," added Kristian Naur, the field director for the council in Chad. "These people are only here to try to survive."
